Wilmot / Sahuarita Road Project

The Pima County Department of Transportation (PCDOT) is designing and reconstructing 7.1 miles of Wilmot Road between Sahuarita Road and where the pavement begins, about 3 miles south of Interstate-10. This is a Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) project which was approved by the voters in 2006.
It begins at Sahuarita Road and ends approximately 3 miles south of I-10. The southern 2 miles of the project is in unincorporated Pima County. The majority of the northern 5.1 miles of the project are within City of Tucson jurisdiction.
Right now, homeowners who live around Sahuarita Road & Houghton can only access I-10 via Houghton or farther East on Wentworth Road. Completing this extension would decrease commute times as well as add to the desirability of their homes for those folks who use I-10 to get to work.
The project was slated to commence in June/July of this year. In a recent communication with Carol Brichta at the Pima County Department of Transportation I am told the start date should be around the beginning of August this year.
For those of you who are interested, here’s the Pima County Website.
As active Realtors in the area, Rob & I feel this project could potentially enhance property values as
one of the main objections we hear from buyers is that homes near Wilmot/Sahuarita are “too far out”. Connecting Wilmot Road with I-10 will go a long way to eliminating this objection.
Will keep you in the loop as this project takes shape!
