Vail Art Fair and Tubac Arts & Crafts Festival

One of the most entertaining aspects of living in Tucson is the abundance of arts and crafts shows. Today I attended two of my favorites.
The Vail Craft Fair is held at the Pima County Fairgrounds. It’s a local event where you are likely to see your neighbors and co- workers. The bulk of the show is held indoors and features a variety of vendors.
We visited local artisans exhibiting handmade handbags, jewelry, shirts , hats, puppets, toys and beauty and health products. In addition there were a variety of local service providers such as water softener, solar , real estate, Vail Preservation Society and the Vail Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few. Outside, food trucks are parked for those interested in snacking, and local students perform at the Outdoor Pavilion. It’s a great opportunity to see what’s new and catch up with friends.
For those of you who want something a bit more upscale, you can’t beat Tubac’s Arts & Crafts Festival. Head South on I-19, use exit 34 and make a left up the frontage road. You can’t miss it. I walked for 1 1/2hrs. and still didn’t see everything. Tubac is a golfing and retirement community with their own set of shops and professional artisans. Much of the pottery is original and of fine quality. You’ll see quite a bit of artwork, sculptures and pottery. There’s even a specialty kitchen store which lures me in every time. There are also rugs, jewelry and SW furniture. Bring your checkbook as it’s not geared towards bargain-hunters. An olio of restaurants and grills with indoor seating provides places to have a bite and rest your feet. It’s authentic SW and worth the drive.
These are just two examples of numerous arts and crafts shows which are held all over the Tucson metro-plex . It’s a great way to pass an afternoon and maybe come home with some treasures, like these hand-made canisters (which I bought)!
