Marana has been a major farming and agricultural area in Tucson for many years. It’s known for specialty agriculture and craft beer. Made from white Sonoran wheat, their beer is being carried by many local restaurants. In addition, the home-grown barley is used in alcoholic beverages such as Whiskey Del Bac.
The Catalina Brewing Co. is Marana’s first craft brewery, offering about 10 signature beers for all types of beer aficionados using local produce. Mesquite flour is used in the Mesquite Agave Ale and prickly pear fruit in the La Rosa Cream Ale. Don’t miss the Raspberry Chocolate Imperial Stout. You’ll want to sample all 10, though probably not in the same visit.
If you’d like to taste local beers from all over Tucson, the Dove Mountain Brewing Co. is the place for you. Try craft brews from Dragoon Brewing Company, Sentinel Peak Brewing Company, Catalina Brewing Co, Barrio Brewing Co and many more. Offering casual pub fare such as pretzels with mustard, paninis and an array of sandwiches to accompany your favorite local beer, it’s a great way to get acquainted with the flavors of Tucson!
The highly esteemed Ritz-Carlton Resort Hotel in Dove Mountain utilizes greens grown in Marana for some of its salads. Each of the 3 restaurants at the Ritz offers the freshest and most seasonal local ingredients.
Cayton’s Burger Bistro overlooks the Golf Club at Dove Mountain. It features gourmet burgers and casual fare. Enjoy lunch in a picturesque setting with outdoor seating available.
For a more romantic setting, Ignite features small plates, sushi and other varied cuisine. You’ll be able to sample local craft beer on tap as well as some signature cocktails.
CORE Kitchen and Wine Bar offers elegant, uptown dining with classic cuisine and a varied menu which changes constantly. As the Ritz- Carlton’s finest restaurant, your dining experience is sure to be a memorable one.
Like Italian food? Vero Amore features a contemporary menu with upscale Neapolitan food. You’ll be able to indulge in wood-fired pizza, seafood and regional pasta dishes. Featuring an extensive wine list, select the perfect wine to complement your Italian cuisine.
No trip is complete without a visit to Lil Abners Steakhouse. In the 1940s it was a Hollywood hangout for movie stars and cowboys alike. Featuring Mesquite-grilled steaks and ribs cooked over an open flame, you’ll love the rustic atmosphere and walls covered with countless memorabilia from the “olden days”.
Whatever your tastes, don’t miss the opportunity to savor some of Tucson’s best cuisine and craft beer. Take some time to get to know Marana and don’t miss the new Twin Peaks Outlet Mall. You can get bargains from some of the best designers. I’m a frequent shopper myself!
