American Legion Post 109

To celebrate the 4th of July, our local American Legion Post 109 hosted a delicious holiday cookout which included hamburgers, hot dogs, roasted corn, chips and desserts. A band performed and water slides provided entertainment for the kids.

DSC00133Although not Veterans ourselves, Rob & I both have parents who served in the military, so could join as Sons of the American Legion or, in my case, the American Legion Auxiliary. To join, you must have served in the military or have a qualified relative who has served. All applicants must submit a copy of DD 214 OR DISCHARGE Papers for themselves or the Veteran to whom they are related.

There is also a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who are the American Legion Riders. Legion Riders sponsor or participate in local and national charity events in support of the sponsoring American Legion Post.

The American Legion and its branches promote patriotism and national security while supporting youth programs and advocating for both veterans and active duty military. They contribute a lot to the community and 100% of the monies raised are given back to the community.

DSC00131The  McCulloch-Wagner Post 109 is located in Corona De Tucson/Vail. Chartered since 1979, it has over 650 members making it one of the largest in Arizona. In addition to charity programs and scholarships, the post is a great gathering place for Veterans and their families creating a sense of unity for the military community.

Rob & I enjoyed visiting the post, not to mention eating some great burgers. If you or your family has served in the military, consider joining this group. You’ll have fun, give back to the community and make new friends.
